Highway Africa: Social Media from margins to mainstream

As you might have seen on my Twitter account, I attended the Highway Africa conference from Sunday 06 September to Monday 07 September 2014. The conference explored whether social media and new technologies are still on the margins in Africa or has it crossed over to being mainstream. It is difficult to throw Africa under one umbrella and say we are developed in the new technology and social media context, especially when you have advanced countries such as South Africa compared with war-struck countries like the Central African Republic (CAR).

During the conference, I met quite a few interesting people, such as Izak Minnaar – the SABC Digital News editor. He is a prominent name in South African digital media and it was truly great meeting a legend. You can download an interesting article he wrote, “Journalism in the digital age” HERE.
